Building A Website
Domain Name Hosting
The 1st step to building a website it choosing the domain name and the provider. I choose devincobert.com for obvious reasons and choose Squarespace because it was cheep and easy to do. I build a mock website on their as well because their builder is easy to use, but their hosting is terrible so I had to move on from them.
Choosing A Builder
If it wasn’t going to be Squarespace because of the builder I would also have to avoid all the other overpriced builder-hosting combination sites. So my only choice was WordPress. It gave me everything I wanted at the price I wanted, free, however I knew it would be a little harder to use
Hosting with AWS Lightsail
My next course of action was to choose my Hosting provider. AWS was an easy choice for me because I already have an account, I have used their services before, and I wouldn’t be stuck in a long-term contract. As a bonus I got 3 months free for my webserver
Setting up WordPress
Once I choose everything I used AWS SSH tool to SSH into my Lightsail server and I followed a guide to setup my webserver. I continued to follow along as my Domain name was set up and propagated, plugins changed, default settings changed to settings I control and then jumping right into my editor.
Build A Website
If you haven’t already built a website, you should, its a fun project and with a bit of technical knowhow and an ability to use google you should be able to build your own website. Its really cool being able to type in a domain name you own to see a website you built.
